Children doing amazing things is something we should celebrate. As we raise our children lets encourage them to dream. Dreamers who want to make a change in the world or at least leave a dent. When a child has a good idea, it’s in our best interest to nurture and support them. It’s a joy to see children doing selfless service to their community and the world.

Christian McPhilamy donates his hair
Christian, from Melbourne, Florida, at the age of 6, saw a commercial for pediatric cancer from St. Jude’s Hospital and wanted to find a way to help kids going through a hard time. He chose to grow out his hair to donate it to a child who had medically-related hair loss. This took him two whole years whilst enduring taunts from classmates and adults who called him a girl.
He donated his 12-inch hair to charity, Children With Hair Loss, who provide free hair replacements to children. Staff from St. Jude’s praised him as a “little hero”. Christian’s story brought smiles to thousands of people, demonstrating how one small act of kindness can go a long way.
Robby Novak – Kid President Motivates
Robby Novak, who is now 13, started a Youtube channel as the Kid President at the age of 8, spreading a message about how people can “make the world more awesome.” Kid President began with a collaboration from his older brother-in-law, Bradley Montague. But the videos soon caught the attention of SoulPancake, the YouTube channel and website co-created by Rainn Wilson of The Office. The site has picked up 19 Kid President videos so far, and counting. The most popular to date, “A Pep Talk from Kid President to You,” (see below) has been watched more than 6 million times in just its first week online.
On the flip side, Robby Novak, suffers from osteogenesis imperfecta, a disease that makes his bones brittle and makes him susceptible to bone damage. He has experienced more than 70 fractures but doesn’t let his frequent injuries slow him down. Wow

Will Lourcey feeds the hungry
Seven year old Will saw a man on the street with a sign that read “Need a meal” on the way home from his baseball game. Will realised there were many people less fortunate than himself and wanted to do something about it. He wanted to fight hunger in his community of Forth Worth and raise awareness about the problem of hunger.
He started volunteering and raising money in his community, creating the organisation FROGs, or Friends Reaching Our Goals. Will has inspired many in his community to join his efforts. Today, FROGs has provided over 175,000 meals for the hungry through the Tarrant Area Food Bank, helped pack 50,000 backpacks with food for hungry children through Backpacks for Kids program, and helped serve over 10,000 families through the Mobile Food Pantry. His hope is that his story will encourage other kids to “be doers, not watchers.”
Alanna Wall builds self-esteem
At the age of 10, Alanna Wall started the nonprofit, PolishedGirlz.org; combining her love of drawing and nail design with her compassion for young ladies with special needs that are hospitalised. Wall’s organisation gives peer to peer support by having youth volunteers polish the nails of these very special young ladies.
Alanna also has a mission to help develop increased self-esteem by promoting hygiene and self-perception in girls. Whilst empowering volunteers with opportunities to improve their quality of life and build leadership skills through community service.
Winter Vincent provides clean water
Inspired by a pro surfer to make some changes in the world, Winter realised that clean drinking water was not a reality for everyone, but that it should be. He got involved in Hurley’s Waves for Water Program and was tremendously supported by his community in his efforts.
With the help of donors, artists, sponsors and local businesses, Winter raised enough money to buy 50 water filtration systems, providing clean water for up to 5,000 people! He chose to help people in Indonesia, because that’s where he loved to go surfing. He even learned how to assemble these water filters and showed people in the villages of Indonesia how to put them together. Of his project, Winter said: “No one said you can’t have fun and help along the way.”
Do your children have the wildest imaginations of things they’d like to accomplish? Give them a chance, give them the support. Children are the world’s most valuable resource and hope for the future.
