Love & Recession

Love & Recession

Starring  Keppy Ekpenyong, Omonor and Ikponmwosa Gold.

Directed by Ifeoma Fafunwa of the acclaimed stage play HEAR WORD!

An adaptation of Femi Osofisan’s popular stage play titled ‘The Engagement’ inspired Russian playwright, Anton Chekhov’s ‘The Marriage Proposal’.

Young farmer Elemude, a long-time neighbor of Chief Sowande, has come to gain permission to propose marriage to Chief’s daughter, Ronke.  Chief is overjoyed at this news as Ronke is already an old maid by Nigerian standards. As such, he immediately fetches his daughter so Elemude can propose on the spot. However, Elemude is an anxious hypochondriac, and while drumming up the courage to propose, he inadvertently gets into an argument over a nearby piece of land.  The fight escalates and Elemude leaves in anger.  In mutual anger, Chief tells his daughter “and the idiot came her to propose marriage to you”.  Desperate to be married, Ronke goes into hysterics and begs her father to bring Elemude back; yet once again, the two get into a second argument. To Ronke’s dismay, Elemude collapses from his exhaustion over arguing, and apparently dies. However, after a few minutes he regains consciousness, and the relieved Chief all but forces the two to get married on the spot.

Lagos Leather Fair

The Lagos Leather Fair

The LAGOS LEATHER FAIR is a private initiative born out of a need to redress the current situation, specifically within the leather industry. It is fundamentally a business project designed to unlock the huge potential of the leather industry and to empower the players along the leather value chain. Its ultimate goal is to deliberate on the challenges facing the industry, start a discourse, tell our stories and offer innovative solutions.

Themed ‘Changing the Narrative’, the Fair is the first of its kind in the country to cater to this niche sector on such a scale; the event will incorporate exhibitions, masterclasses, a panel discussion, workshops, brief catwalk presentations and a unique retail experience. This segment-based approach will provide exposure and a platform for some of Nigeria’s best leather designers of footwear, handbags, apparel, jewellery and much more, to showcase their work. It will also facilitate contacts between raw materials suppliers (tanners), producers of finished leather goods, and retailers. Beyond this, it will provide a learning opportunity for SMEs, and enable necessary business linkages.
