Situational Tuesday: The Trust Fund Child

Jaiye looked out the window, the air is different, but it sure feels good to be back home having been away for Sope’s wedding in Dubai. It was wonderful, Dubai is a really beautiful place. He never gets tired of visiting there.

Toba is getting married in SA next weekend as well. He wouldn’t miss it for anything in the world. Not like he wasn’t going to be there before Toba ties the knot anyway. He smiled.

Thanks to his grandparents, he has been living like a “Gawd” as his friends would popularly call it and then have a good laugh at it afterwards. Yes, even he can attest to it. It is not his fault, it’s his grandparents’. He smiled the more.

His dad has been giving him concern lately though. He rolled his eyes as he shifted in his sit.

“Jaiye the life you are living is not good”, Jaiye where are you?” Jaiye this, Jaiye that….

Lately it has been on the business plan he drafted for him. He sighed. Not like he wasn’t going to invest “his money” he emphasized in his mind, but he needed to take his time. Yes he will clock 33 next month, and he intends to blast up Lagos. After that he would be serious with everything just like his parent wants him to be. He promised, unconsciously lifting up is hand.

He came back to reality just as the car slowed down to halt. “Sam why are you stopping?”, he asked the driver in a near angry tone. “We have reached your daddy’s house sir; do you want me to drive in”? He sat back in his sit.  His dad will just nag at him again, “Lets head to the usual” he said…afterall he did promise the guys a lovely night when he arrived. He would deal with his parents later.

Don’t know why they are trying to play dad and mum now. As the only child, Jaiye celebrated most birthdays with helps at home, the driver being the head of the occasion. His parents would of course send luxurious gifts with an apology letter, and a promise to come next-year. “He sighed”.

They should just leave him and let him enjoy his life the way he fits.

He brought out his phone…. dialed a number… “Toba” he said…
