Kate Ene David, who is 14 years old will be MTN Nigeria’s CEO for one day. Every loving parent looks forward to moments when they can be proud of their kids. For the parents of Kate Ene David, this dream is coming true.
On Saturday, 26 November 2022, Kate emerged winner of the 2022 MTN mPulse Spelling Bee and as part of the grand prize, the Nasarawa resident will be the CEO of MTN Nigeria for a day.
The grand finale of the MTN mPulse Spelling Bee hosted a number of students, teachers, parents, journalists, and of course, the top 20 finalists who vied to become the spelling bee champion. Recall that the competition commenced in August 2022 and was open to primary and secondary school students between 9 and 15 years.

Meeting the top 20 finalists
It was a delight meeting the top 20 finalists who made the shortlist out of over 11,000 students who participated in the competition. The scholars were smartly dressed in their respective school uniforms and tags. One by one, they took their allotted seats on the stage with a level of confidence that evinced their readiness to spell their way to victory.
The Spelling rounds
The participants came prepared as it was almost impossible for some of them to miss a word. As expected, the audience chose their favourite spellers and cheered them on. However, like every other competition, elimination was inevitable which brought us to the top 3 finalists.
When Kate spells the winning word
Could you spell ‘acquiesce’ before now? Maybe not, but for the 14-year-old student from Intimacy with Christ International School, Mararaba, Nasarawa State, it was a piece of cake. Kate Ene David took the crown after correctly spelling the word in one sitting. Yes, utterly impressive!
The award presentation
We must admit that making it to the top 20 is a colossal feat and worthy of compensation. Aside from awarding the winner with mouthwatering prizes for herself, her English teacher, and her school, MTN Nigeria also extended gifts to all other finalists. We loved watching them and their proud parents come on stage to claim their prizes.
The giveaway
Members of the audience were included in copping some prizes. As long as they could answer the questions the MC threw at them. Overall, the finale was not only entertaining but educative and transformative. Best believe that participating in the competition has changed the lives of these students for the best.
As Kate prepares for her one-day CEO role at MTN Nigeria on February 1, 2023, the young lady has said “I am very excited to learn about the CEO’s position on that day”
