He spoke about her support over the years and how she encouraged him to pursue his dreams despite the challenges of living in a poor neighbourhood, he said “I would not be standing up here if it wasn’t for this person. I didn’t grow up in a life of privilege”. He said “This woman drove me three hours a day to a different school to show me a different opportunity. I love you very much”. He thanked her for going with him for auditions when he was a child and helping him become the man he is today. He spent most of the night with her and treated his family to a nice celebratory meal at the after party dinner of the Oscars.

This comes to show that whatever the circumstances, when you do all in your power to give your child the best out of life it never goes unrewarded. There will always be a success story from a child with a loving mother figure and a strong family support system.
