Lesson From Meghan Markle and The Importance Of Parental Influence

The Royal wedding that took place over the weekend has been the talk of the town world. Talk has been centered around not only the glamorous affair but the many life lessons taken from the lives of the couple as individuals and as a unit (Read- Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s love story).

The most striking story for us is Meghan Markle’s recollection of how her parents influenced her as a child. And how this has shaped the adult she is now. Watch the video on our Instagram page (@LagosMums).

Many years ago as an eleven year old, an advocate was born in her. She got home and told her dad how upset she was after a commercial dared to suggest that washing dishes was a woman’s job.

Her father didn’t tell her off, he didn’t tell her that “washing dishes” was what her future held. Instead, he encouraged her to do something about it and she did.

She shot off letters to the most important people that she knew. Including the first lady at the time – Hillary Clinton. She also wrote to the soap company. She got replies from all the women and the commercial was changed.

The rest is history as they say! She learnt from a young age that she can make an impact.

The Importance of Parental influence in a child’s life

Parent's influence

Parents, the power of unleashing your child’s future lies in you.

Everyday, ask God how he wants to use you to guide and nurture your child to fulfill his or her destiny.

Imagine if every parent asks God the owner and giver of life how to make the right choices regarding their children.

We all love Meghan Markle and the lovely unfolding story of how this strong and confident woman has become one of the most powerful women in the world. She sure does not need to be invited to any table, she can, is and will create her own table. And this is because she learnt at a young age that SHE CAN.

The importance of parental influence

Parents, speak life into your children.

Don’t ever underestimate how far your encouragement can take your child. NURTURE their interests and talents.

[How to teach your children to become well rounded healthy adults]

One of the greatest influence parents have on their children is the manner in which they expose their children to values or ideas which will become extremely important for them overtime.

Finally, parents are the first role models that children have. Children tend to emulate everything they see you do and repeat what they hear you say. Also, they crave and need your validation. They need you to constantly recognize and affirm that their feelings and opinions are valid.

Remember to always encourage your children, feed their curiosity and help them achieve their dreams.
