6 Self-Care Tips For Mums

Mums take care of every other person but themselves. True or True? However, what we fail to realise is that taking care of yourself puts you in a position to be a better mum. Self-care is a necessity, not an indulgence! When you make self-care a priority, you will become the best version of yourself. Below are 6 self care tips for mums.

Self Care for mumsBe intentional

Putting your best self forward requires intentional choices, especially for busy mums. Instead of running on autopilot, be intentional about your choices. You can feel healthy and look great while juggling a family and a career. Take 15 or 30 minutes for yourself, twice a day. Use that time to just close your eyes, read a book or do something that relaxes you.

Eat right

It is important to look after yourself with healthy lifestyle choices. Good food fuels your body, so make sure you eat healthy food. Eat as close to the ground as possible. Take a few minutes to plan what you are going to keep in your fridge each week so you can make easy and healthy meals. It is also important to drink plenty of water. You can have natural homemade juice as an alternative. When your children see you eating right, they will make healthy food choices as well. For new mums, what you eat needs to be nutritionally balanced because you are eating for yourself and your baby.

Exercise

Exercise is a very good way to keep your body in shape and your mind active. Many adults do not have the time to exercise due to their busy lifestyles. Create a workout plan or simply go for a morning run or walk before you drop the kids off at school.

Ask for help

Every mum needs a support system. Being a mum comes with a lot of responsibilities. However, the good news is that you do not have to do it alone. It is okay to ask for help. Whether it is emotional or physical support or even help with the laundry and cooking, be open to accepting help from other people.

Indulge in me-time

Being a mum is a full-time job, between cleaning up after the kids and trying hard to ensure they have all they need, there is hardly any time left to relax. Self-care for mums needs to be a priority. and mums need to take time out for themselves once in a while. No matter how old your child or children are, mums need a break now and again. Do whatever makes you happy, take a walk, go for a massage or read a book. After you get over the guilt you will feel for leaving your children alone, it will be worth it.

Sleep

This might seem impossible, however, mums need to prioritize sleep! Healthy Sleep helps you feel rested and energetic. It keeps us from getting sick and helps you get better when you are sick. When you do not get enough sleep, it impairs your ability to think clearly, focus, react and control emotions. This can result in serious problems in the workplace, at school and at home. Make out time to get enough sleep.

Make your health and well-being a priority because when you are thriving, your whole family will also thrive!
