A Month of Celebrations Honoring Women and Mothers
March is a month filled with significant celebrations, especially for women. It is a time to honor the powerful roles women play in our lives, particularly as mothers. The month kicked off with International Women’s Day on March 8th, followed by the International Day of Happiness, and culminated with Mother’s Day. It is a season to pause, reflect, and celebrate not only the achievements of women globally but also the unique and impactful role of motherhood in shaping the future.
The Theme of “Accelerate Action” and What It Means
This year’s International Women’s Day theme, “Accelerate Action,” resonated deeply with me. It inspired the International Women’s Day event I hosted, themed “Unmask to Accelerate.” This powerful idea reminds us of the importance of shedding the masks we often wear to meet societal expectations. By allowing ourselves to show up authentically and celebrating motherhood, we embrace our true selves. Only then can we move forward with clarity and purpose.
Motherhood and the Need to Unmask
In the context of motherhood, this message holds even greater significance. It challenges us as mothers to stop hiding behind the mask of “perfection” or the belief that we must constantly sacrifice ourselves for our families. Instead, it encourages us to prioritize our well-being, happiness, and personal growth.

The Heavy Load Mothers Carry
For many mothers, the weight of responsibility can feel overwhelming. Balancing family, career, relationships, and self-care is no easy task. However, the truth remains: we cannot pour from an empty cup.
The International Day of Happiness, with its theme “Caring and Sharing,” reminds us that self-care is not selfish; it is essential. As women, prioritizing our needs is crucial so we can continue giving to those we love. Neglecting self-care affects not only our well-being but also the way we nurture our families.
The Impact of a Mother’s State of Mind
Motherhood is beautiful yet demanding. It requires immense love, patience, and sacrifice. But it is important to remember that being a mother does not mean losing oneself. Gabor Maté wisely noted that a mother’s state of mind profoundly shapes her child’s worldview.
“A child’s brain and emotional world are shaped significantly by the emotional availability of the primary caregiver, most often the mother and becomes the emotional template for the child’s experience of the world.”
When a mother consistently sacrifices her happiness or hides her true self behind obligations, her children may internalize that burden, feeling responsible for her unfulfilled dreams.

Embracing Authentic Motherhood
This is why it is essential for mothers to embrace their own journeys and prioritize their well-being alongside their family’s needs. When mothers demonstrate that it is possible to balance career, personal growth, and family life, they teach their children resilience, optimism, and self-worth.
Children learn best from what they observe. When they see their mothers living authentically, they too are empowered to embrace their true identities without fear.
Every Mother’s Journey is Unique
It is also crucial to recognize that motherhood is not a one-size-fits-all experience. Just as every woman’s life journey is unique, so is each mother’s path. There will be moments of doubt, overwhelm, and questioning.
During such times, leaning on a support system—whether family, friends, or professional coaching—can make all the difference. Life is not meant to be navigated alone, and having a strong network helps us recalibrate our perspectives and refuel our strength.
Reflecting on Our Journeys
No matter when you are reading this, celebrating motherhood is an ongoing process. Take a moment to reflect on your personal journey and acknowledge that you deserve happiness, rest, and personal fulfillment.
The concept of Seasonal Prioritization comes to mind: different stages of life require different focuses. Some seasons call for deep family involvement, while others demand a focus on personal growth. Regardless of the season, the most important thing is to remain authentic and intentional.
Embracing the Fullness of Motherhood and Womanhood
Motherhood is a journey filled with unexpected turns and beautiful milestones. Through it all, we must remember that we are not just mothers. We are women with dreams, talents, and limitless potential.
As we continue to navigate the intricate dance between family life and personal fulfillment, let us embrace the beauty of unmasking and living authentically. When we show up as our true selves, we thrive—and in doing so, we create a lasting legacy for our children to carry forward.
Honoring Women Everywhere
Today and always, we honor all the mothers, daughters, and women who shape our world with their strength, compassion, and resilience. Let us remember: by caring for ourselves, we are better able to care for others.
