Encouraging Children’s Gifts and Talents

As parents, helping your children tap into their passions and talents is one of the greatest gifts you can give them. It is always a good time to get involved in activities to encourage your children’s gifts, talents and abilities.

Making your children passionate about what they have to offer the world and knowing who they are is a great self-esteem booster. Some of your child’s activities may lead to a passion in the future.

Here are some activities that can help develop their interests.

Communicate with them

Find the time this weekend to get into conversing with your child. Listen to whatever your child might be telling you regarding their interests. Children will talk non-stop about what interests them; even if it does not interest you, listen anyway.

And listen to what your children are saying about what they do not like. If they don’t like sports or music, they have giving you valuable information about their interests. Listen to the subtle cues you receive as well. A child that loathes practising music is probably not very interested in playing an instrument.

Reading Together

Develop a reading attitude with your child this weekend. Encourage time for reading sessions with your children so they can easily develop their love for books when they grow older. Also, reading aloud to infants further stimulates their imagination and expands their understanding of the world.

Telling stories about Famous People as Children

Finding the time in the weekend for storytelling is a good way to connect with your children. You can watch videos or tell stories about the stories of successful people they know as this can motivate and encourage your children to persevere in their interests.

Famous people such as Bill Gates, one of the richest men in the world started out tinkering with electronics to develop his love for computers and electronics. Oprah Winfrey, one of the most popular talk show hosts in the world started reading at the age of 3, which started a famous love for books; and so many others.

This will further stimulate your child’s drive to succeed and hence encourage their gift and talent.

You can get the YouTube Kids app that makes it easier and fun for children to explore on their own. And makes it easier for parents to guide their journey as they discover new and exciting interests along the way.

Create time for your child, give them the attention they seek and encourage their own activities. Learning how to develop their gifts, talents and interests start from home with parents who help children to identify their interests; and encourage them to continue to learn and explore.
