How Zuckerberg’s Visit Started The Jollof Wars

Do you wonder how Mark Zuckerberg’s visit started the jollof wars? He was quoted as saying “I love the jollof rice.. with shrimps, delicious..delicious” he said. And then he added that Nigerian jollof was fantastic and that he enjoyed it!

When Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, visited Nigeria, he said he was told not to compare the jollof rice in Nigeria to that of the neighbouring countries. Clearly he had gotten the memo. But that’s just Mark Zuckerberg being safe.

The topic doesn’t seem to be reaching a conclusion as it even got to The Guardian and none of the sides (Nigeria and Ghana) are willing to refer to theirs as “worse than the other”.

There’s so much noise over Jollof rice. For goodness sake, Jollof rice is just rice isn’t it? But don’t ever say that Jollof rice is rice in public or you will be dragged on social media. Jollof rice is not just rice – at least that’s what Nigerian and Ghanaian Twitter world is trying to tell us with the hashtag #JollofWars.
