Jeans for Charity: Rainbow College Gives Back to the Community

On the 11th of April 2019, Rainbow College Surulere commemorated the inaugural edition of ‘Jeans for Charity,’a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative strategized and implemented by the students of Rainbow College to raise funds for the less privileged.

To imbibe a longstanding culture of giving back to the society, Rainbow College students are often engaged in various acts of charity. These acts of voluntary giving present the students various opportunities to add value, whilst giving them a sense of pride and fulfillment. They also learn of their capabilities to drive positive change in their community.

On that day, the students wore jeans and each donated the sum of N500. To raise extra funds, the students also bought chocolates, soft drinks, and cotton candy from participating vendors. All the proceeds were donated to the Hearts of Gold Children’s Hospice, Surulere, Modupe Child Care, and Treatment Home Akoka

Commenting on the event, King Akinwale, Headboy Rainbow College Day said “I hope that today students learnt about giving. I also hope they are encouraged to inculcate the spirit of love, giving, and of charity in their day- to- day lives”

The visit garnered positive feedback from the students. Tobiloba Jagun, a junior secondary student said, “I feel privileged to be here, to have parents who love me. I know these children are going through a lot and it’s not their fault, I will continue to keep them in my prayers.”

In addition to the ‘Jeans for Charity’ event, the Rainbow College Boarding PTA spearheaded a medical screening activity, for the Aseese and Maba community on the 12th of April, 2019. In attendance were widows, women of the communities, children, 15 CDA leaders, the OPC leader, and two Baales from the community. Medical personnel were invited to carry out blood pressure and blood sugar checks for the community.

In his welcome address, the Principal, Mr Adeshina Okunubi thanked the community for being very supportive and providing a serene environment for the school’s outreach. The PTA appreciated the community by giving out a vast array of provisions.
