It is always exciting to know the first babies of the new year around the world. Here is a round up of the first babies of 2019 from different countries around the world.

Afghanistan


Born at exactly midnight on 1 January, baby Mariam arrived into the world at an MSF maternity unit in West Kabul, Afghanistan – weighing 3.4 kgs.

New Castle, UK

Eva arrived at 6.30am weighing 8lbs 8oz after mum Rebecca O’Donnell, from Throckley, came in at 10pm on New Year’s Eve to get induced.

As the New Year’s fireworks were going off, Emma and William Vittery were measuring contractions.

Ivory Coast

Lebanon

Nigeria

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) estimated that 25,685 babies would be born in Nigeria on New Year Day.

He said that the figure placed the country’s babies as making up 6.5 per cent of the estimated 395,072 babies that would be born on the day globally (source: Sahara reporters). See some of Nigeria’s New Year babies below
