How to Achieve Mum-Life Balance

Is it even possible to achieve Mum-Life Balance? Let’s face it, being a mum is a full-time job, between cleaning up after the kids and trying hard to ensure they have all they need, there’s hardly any time left to relax. Most Lagos mums have to deal with the stress of working a full-time job at home and at work.

Balance

The traffic from the daily commute alone is more than enough reason why mums need to take frequent breaks. However, being a mum isn’t a job you can take a break from so the only thing you really can do is to strive for balance.

So how do you balance the responsibilities of being a full-time mum and full-time employee/employer?

First things first, you need to be super organized! Organizing your time will give you room to complete your tasks and have some “me time.” Scheduling every hour of the day can be very helpful. Create a timetable, meal plan and a plan for just you. Schedule fun bonding activities with the kids after school and then create specific times within the day when you do something that you enjoy.

Mums often forget what it means to enjoy themselves because all they do is ensure their kids are engaged and active. You don’t need to take time off from work completely before you enjoy yourself. Here are a few tips on how you can relax more and achieve mum-life balance.

1. Exercise

A lot of mums obsess over the health of their kids while ignoring theirs. Exercise is a very good way to keep your body in shape and your mind active. Create a workout plan or simply go for a morning run or walk. If you are feeling guilty about not spending enough time with the kids, you can involve them by going for an evening walk together. This is also a good way for the family to bond.

2. Weekend Treat

Treat yourself to the things you love, like scheduling a spa treatment or a simple pedicure and manicure date with your friends and fellow mums. This will really help you relax and find some balance. Doing things with other mums can provide some sort of support as there is no better feeling than knowing you are not in this alone.

3. Breakfast in bed

Who says you can’t spoil yourself too? Fix yourself breakfast and enjoy it in bed. You can start your morning with your favourite breakfast meal and some delicious, refreshing juice, like 5Alive Orange Pulpy or their new, tasty juice drinks in Tropical or Apple. A rich breakfast will not only elevate your mood but also raise your energy levels.

As a busy mum, you might occasionally feel like you’re carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders. It’s important to escape for a few hours during your day to recuperate. Don’t feel like you have to do it all. Communicate the importance of setting rest times to your spouse or kids, so they can let you have time alone or get involved to make your job easier.
