Celebrating Women and Mother’s Day
Mother’s Day is one day set aside to celebrate mothers all over the world. Mother’s day should be a celebration of women – whether you have physically given birth to a child yet or not. By definition of Woman, we are talking about influence! It should be about celebrating women in your life who have had an influence on your life. Your mother, aunties, grandmothers, sisters, mentors and people who have had a positive influence on you in your life.
During a special mothers day celebration in church, there was a special focus on mothers. As part of this, a set of four men sang “Mama by Boyz II Men” to the mothers in the congregation. The lyrics are beautiful and really appreciate Mums for their role in the lives of children. While the song was going on I did notice a few tears in the crowd as some women were dabbing at their eyes. I found myself thinking what could be the reason behind the tears?

Many Emotions
The teary eyes could be for a variety of reasons. For example, perhaps people were crying in remembrance of their mums. Maybe some were emotional about not having good relationships with their mums. It could also be that some were wishing to become mums and others were just thankful to be mums. Do some wish they had another chance to be a mum, or even crying for lost children or for children who have not turned out how they had hoped? And lastly, perhaps there would be those who were just celebrating and appreciating their mums. When it comes to celebrating mother’s day there is indeed a range of emotions.
Whatever the feeling and emotions were with regard to the song most people have been influenced by a woman that they will never forget.
Women are influential in their homes, their communities, ministry and the world. And women need to embrace the fact that they are a point of influence and be sure to influence in the most positive ways possible.
