What is the name of your school, and when was it founded?

Our school is called Avi-Cenna International School and it was founded in 1989.

We are located at No 6 Harold Shodipo Crescent, GRA Ikeja, Lagos.

Please give details of your staff/ administration?

There are 60 members of teaching staff across EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage), Primary and Secondary Schools. Supporting School and its activities we have 58 administrative and ancillary members of staff

What is the ratio of kids to teachers?

The ratio of students to staff in the EYFS is 1:7 while it is at a ratio of 1:15 in the Primary and Secondary Schools.

What is the curricular/ teaching methodology to be adopted?

The Curriculum that is adopted in the school is the English National Curriculum and our teaching methodology is child centered.

Extra-curricular activities available?

Co-curricular activities take place every day of the week.

They run from 2:15 pm till 3:50 pm.

The activities available are: Football, Literacy Support, Karate, Swimming, Chess, Art and Craft, Ballet, Music, Lego Robotics, Coding, Girl Guide, Brownies, Steam Club, Numeracy Support, Dance and Choir, Basketball, Volleyball, Junior Achievement and Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.

School Hours and any after school services offered?

The school hours run from 7.55am utill 1:00 pm for Pre-School and till 2.00pm for Primary children who do not have co-curricular activities and 2.35pm for Secondary children.

What is the admission process? Deadline/ is it rolling?

Parents/guardians who are interested in seeking admission for their children can obtain a registration form from the Registrar.

Admission is ongoing throughout the year. However there is a date set aside for Entrance   examinations into the school. This date is usually published in the newspapers. Forms are bought from the Registrar and children are then tested by entrance examination.

Consequently, successful candidates are informed by mail.

Tuition? Is there a payment plan for the pupils?

Fees are expected to be paid fully for the year or termly.

They could be paid in advance.

There is also an optional payment plan, which allows the parents to spread their payment over some time.

How do you access student’s progress?

Children’s progress is assessed by formative and summative assessment methods.

Children write formal exams in the first and third terms of each term.

They are also given projects and tasks to carry out, which counts to their final assessment.

Assessment is also ongoing and the children are registered for the Key Stage 2 SATs exams, Checkpoint exams in Year 9 and Cambridge IGCSE exams in Year 11.

What are the Disciplinary methods adopted?

We have a parent’s handbook which outlines different categories/levels of misdemeanors and their sanctions.

Discipline at Avi-Cenna is meant to correct childrens behaviour and to create a conducive environment for learning.
