It is no longer news that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will be stepping back from official royal duties in Spring 2020 and moving towards gaining financial independence. Challenging the Status quo is one of the beauties of life. at some point, every tradition will need to be challenged. Those that will stay will stay and the ones that will leave will have to leave. We can’t fight it as change is a constant phenomenon of life. Now it is happening at a very conspicuous and highly political ranked monarchy like the United Kingdom.
The couple wrote in a statement posted on Instagram that they will continue “to fully support Her Majesty The Queen,” but will no longer receive money from the country’s “sovereign grant” and can pursue outside professional opportunities. In a rare statement, the Queen expressed full support for the young family after a closely watched summit of the royal family had reportedly taken place at her Sandringham Estate.
“Today my family had very constructive discussions on the future of my grandson and his family,” she said in the statement. “My family and I are entirely supportive of Harry and Meghan’s desire to create a new life as a young family,” she wrote.” Although we would have preferred them to remain full-time working Members of the Royal Family, we respect and understand their wish to live a more independent life as a family while remaining a valued part of my family.
Buckingham Palace said in a second statement that Harry and Meghan “will continue to maintain their private patronages and associations” on behalf of the Queen, but will no longer use their HRH titles.

There are major lessons we can all learn from the bold step taken by this royal couple. According to Process Analyst-Emmanuel Faith, ”We can’t fight it; as change is a constant phenomenon of life. Now it is happening at a very conspicuous and highly political ranked monarchy like the UK”. There will obviously be economic effects from this major move as most of their funds will now spill over to the state and be used to cater for more valued resources.
What are the futuristic effects of this major move? Will the next royal couple follow suit? Will this become a laydown rule later in future? Is this move an abuse to the royal tradition? These are questions only the future can answer. ”I think they made an amazingly bold decision, and I believe that it will be great if Prince Harry and Megan can actually pull this through and build a career out of it” Mr Emmanuel said.
Also, Effectiveness Coach- Dr Olaluwoye Tosin was of the view that this Royal Couple has set an example for people, both male and female alike to learn from. Prince Harry has been able to show to the world the importance of prioritising and building the family unit. The power in the Royal Family is for life, and it takes a huge amount of courage and sacrifice to step down from such powerful duties and prioritise your family over a position of power that attracts wealth; he said.
Lessons we can all learn from the Royal Family saga.
1. The family should be prioritised over everything else.
2. Have purposeful discussions with your spouse- If they never had a discussion about the probability of this sort of issue coming up then it will be a very difficult step to take.
– Did they have this sort of conversation before marriage?
– How should married couples discuss?
Taking all these questions to note is what the union of marriage and building strong families is all about. In essence, always have a mutual plan before getting married.
Find out what you want to do with your life and discuss this with your spouse so that when it comes to making major life decisions, the sacrifices will be based on your mutual plans for each other.

3. Think of the long term consequences of your decisions. When we make decisions we should put into consideration the possible long term effects and consequences.
4. Some traditions will change for you; if only you can take that bold step.
5. This royal couple thought about the holistic effect of their decision from a microeconomic and sociocultural/political view.
So! Will there be a sustainability and ripple effect of this major move for the forthcoming generation? Will Prince Harry and Megan assume their royal duties later? Or, will this ‘Megxit’ be the Start of an End for Harry and Meghan? Whatever the outcome of this will be; we can only which this lovely couple the very best!
