A to Z Parenting Tips: Teach Children To Be Victorious

In our ongoing series of A to Z parenting tips, today we take a look at how we can teach children to be ‘Victorious’. Last week we took a look at Teaching children the importance of Unity. Having an I can attitude puts your child in a position of victory, when children believe they can achieve anything they set their mind to, then they can achieve most things.

I Can Attitude Through Discipline

Any parent who desires their child to be victorious must instill a high level of discipline and ‘I can attitude” in the child. Some children are not easily motivated or nonchalant towards crucial issues that affect their lives. When a high level of discipline is instilled in a child, they will naturally motivate themselves to do things and not wait for others to push them.

Take for example a child who is meant to do his/her homework. When the child arrives back from school (if he or she has been taught a level of discipline) without being told, after eating and resting, the next thing will be for them to pick up their school assignments. Another child might go straight to the television and be a couch potato. Diligent people will always rise to the top. This is a key lesson about life. Children need to understand that they need much more than just skill or know-how to be successful, they need to be diligent.

Determination

A child that will succeed in life must be determined no matter what. While some children are born with a silver spoon in their mouth, others have to fight and work hard for everything they get. No matter the condition of your birth every human can achieve what they put their mind to. Having a can-do attitude and the determination to succeed makes all the difference between a child who plays the victim and the one who goes after what he wants.

Humility

The humility being referred to here is being down to earth at every point or in every situation life brings your way. Children need to understand that wherever they are is only a privilege, not because they are better than anyone else. The only thing to be proud of is hard work and perseverance.

Children should learn from a young age to receive instructions; correction and discipline from their parents and teachers. A child most also learn to show gratitude and appreciation to people who make contributions to their lives. Refer to post- teach them to show 5 steps to teaching children Gratitude

God’s Guidance

The most important lesson you can teach your child in order for him/her to succeed in life is the knowledge of the fear of God. Some parents tend to shy away from this very important lesson, but the truth is children need to understand that with God on their side they can achieve their goals. All humans are born with an inborn knowledge of the wonder of spirituality. Our children should be encouraged to develop a personal relationship with God. They should cultivate the habit of putting everything to God in prayer. Everyone including children must be taught to trust God and not rely solely on their abilities.
