The University of Medical Sciences, Ondo State released an internal memo stating that a certain “psychotropic drug” is currently in circulation in the country disguised as sweets and candies.

The memo which is dated 20th of September and signed by O.V Olagbande, the university’s Chief Security Officer, states that there’s a new drug known as “Straw-berry Quick” and that “its effects are very scary”.

According to the statement, the new drug, known as “Straw-berry Quick”, is in circulation in schools across the country and everyone needs to be aware especially parents.

“We want to share this with parents and urge them to take urgent action now that children are resuming school,” the statement read.

“There is also a type of Crystal meth going around that looks like Strawberry Pop Rocks (the candy that sizzles and pops in the mouth) It smells like strawberry and is being handed out to kids in schoolyards. They are calling it “strawberry meth or strawberry quick”.

“Kids readily accept these ‘gifts’ thinking that it is a candy and are being rushed off to the hospital in dire-condition. It also comes in chocolate peanut butter, cola cherry, grape, and orange.

The Chief security officer advises that parents instruct their children not to accept candy from strangers and not to even accept a candy that looks like what he just described from any friend or persons.

The story on “Straw-berry Quick” first caught worldwide media attention in 2007 and it became a firestorm.  Since then, the story continued to resurface and now ten years later there are reports of it being handed out in schools in Nigeria.

Parents, it’s time to re-teach your children an age-old lesson: Don’t take candy from strangers, or even schoolmates.

Talk to your children about the effects/dangers of drugs and how easy it could be to take drugs without knowing it until it is too late. Instruct them not to accept candy from strangers and even more, not to accept candy that looks like the pictures above from a friend (who may have been given it and believed it is candy) and to take any that they may have to a teacher or the principal.
