School of the Month Feature: Standard Bearers School

Choosing the right school for your child is a very important decision. At LagosMums, we bring detailed insights on schools in order to help parents make decisions in what various schools offer.

This June 2019, our school of the month is Standard Bearers School. A LagosMums representative visited Standard Bearers School. She received a warm welcome from the Founder and Staff of the School and was given a tour of the school by the administrator, Ms Womiye Ojo.

Standard Bearers School (SBS) is located in the serene environment in the heart of Lekki Phase one. Visitors coming into the school goes through a top notch security verification to ascertain utmost security of the pupils and their management.

LagosMums representative interviewed the founder of the school, Mrs Modupe Adeyinka Oni, who is an educator with 37 years experience working with children. She worked in Corona School for 13 years and branched out to start Standard Bearers School, which has now been in operations since the past 22 years.

From the interview with the founder, SBS is a well rounded school that goes above and beyond classroom learning. The school has a series of activities that aims to groom children to become free thinkers and outstanding leaders. With her very creative mind, Mrs. Oni has created a strong love for the creative arts in all the staff and pupils. SBS is known to stretch the boundaries of parent’s expectations annually with amazing musical recitals and end of year concerts most of which she produces.

What is the admission process? Deadline/ is it rolling?

After purchasing the application, prospective students need to take an assessment test. The test aids the teacher and parent to know more about the student and understand his/her strengths and weaknesses. Fees are paid thereafter and admission is offered to prospective student and they are given two weeks to pay. It’s a rolling admission process unless capacity is full for a specific class.

What separates your School from others?
We are student centered and understand that every child has his/her individual differences, talents and strengths. Our history is rich and we have students that can testify to our performance locally and internationally. We try to tap into each child full potential no matter what area these talents lay. We are a 21st century school and one of the only schools that offers the Leader in Me program which every student is encouraged to imbibe.

What should parents be looking for to decide if your school would work for them/their children?

Do you want a school that taps into your child potential and focuses on their talents?
Are you looking for a holistic education that caters to all fields in this technology driven
21st century for your child? Standard Bearers is the school for your child!

How will your school prepare children for learning and operating in the 21 st century?

1. Child centered learning – where children take charge of their learning and are able to explore and improve.
2. Individualized learning – There is a one-on-one attention on all students which allows them to learn at their pace with supervision and will encourage them to tap into their full potential.
3. We are very open to exposing our students to STEAM and as a testimonial, 5 of our
Grade 6 girls just won a tech competition called Technovation 2019. They built an
app which will help fund underprivileged children.
