Lagos Poetry Festival 2018

Date: Nov 3rd & 4th   Time: 10.00am – 8.00pm     Venue: Freedom park, old prison ground, broadstreet , Lagos Island

This year, the LIPfest returns from oct 31st to Nov 4th with the theme Wide Awake. As a rousing wave of discontenting voices tip political and social power structures from the global North to the South and reinvigorate conversations on accountability, transparency and social justice, staying alive to the issues has become particularly vital. LIPFest2018 examines the growing importance of vigilance in a post-truth era. Conversations will explore new frontiers in the fight for gender equality and identity, racial and social justice and how the concerns of awakening collective consciousness and mediating justified paranoia animates art.

The 2018 edition of the festival draws 35 guests from 12 countries with 4 workshops and masterclasses, 10 panel discussions, 5 evenings of readings and performances, 1 concert, 2 parties (Lagos style) and launches its poet in residence program with the phenomenal South African poet and activist Lebo Mashile. We welcome all our guest poets, writers and artists, and all the visitors travelling into the city for the period. We look forward to important conversations on and off panels, fire readings and performances, tasty food, waist bending music, and a great, great time

Art X Lagos

Date: 3rd & 4th November,   Venue: The Civic Centre, Victoria Island Lagos

ART X Lagos is West Africa’s premier international art fair, designed to showcase the best and most innovative contemporary art from the African continent and its Diaspora.

Launched in 2016, the art fair has since become a cornerstone of the Lagos art calendar, drawing local patrons and a host of international collectors, curators, and critics annually. Since its debut, ART X Lagos has welcomed over 15,000 visitors to see the works of Africa’s leading established and emerging artists, including representatives of institutions such as the Tate Modern, Zeitz MOCAA, and the National Museum of African Art at the Smithsonian. These attendees and the satellite exhibitions that have emerged in response to the fair, are undoubtedly indicators of Lagos’ position as a fast-emerging and exciting cultural hub.

From Friday 2nd November to Sunday 4th November 2018, the next edition of the ART X Lagos art fair will take place at The Civic Centre in Victoria Island, Lagos. The fair will deliver an exciting program of specially curated projects, talks and live events, to its broad audience of collectors, connoisseurs, cultural practitioners and art lovers

Plus Size Fashion Week

Opening in Lagos the second edition of the only fashion runway show ever dedicated to Plus Size Models and Apparels. In the light of realities, this will be the first TRULY African fashion runway show! African culture celebrates the healthy looking plus sized woman. She is the everyday woman in the African Office, Shop, Marketplace and on the streets.

Western Fashion Trends has tended to alienate the plus sized African woman, almost to the point of stigmatizing her body size. This fact has tended to question the integrity of conventional African Fashion runways with ‘zero’ sized models strutting the runways being viewed by audiences, 85% of whom are plus sized! This tended to create a divide, between the audience and the fashion show.

To Bridge this gap and put the real needs of the average African woman on the runway, the Plussize Fashion Week is finally born, thus bringing an African Fashion Feel to an African Audience.

The Plussize Fashion Week is poised to celebrate the African Woman’s Body, while not excluding zero-sized and other sized models and apparels as well. It is also not a female exclusive fashion show, male apparels will also be showcased
